Raise your hand if you’ve ever been in a tension-filled relationship that simply wouldn’t improve? Me too. For me, it was the traditional in-law strife that often surfaces with the merging of families. I didn’t see this one coming. After all, I was immersed in an amazing friendship filled with great moments of love, laughter and adventure with my boyfriend’s mother until that title changed to “mother-in-law”.
A few days into my engagement, the wedding plans spurred strong stances as it related to family roles, expenses, guest counts, etc. — and of course, tradition. I just kept telling myself it was the stress of wedding planning. I truly believed after our wedding day, life would bounce back to those happy times we once knew. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Unfortunately, the negative sentiment had set in and continued for years after. Then one day, the phone rang. It was my mother-in-law and like usual, I immediately went into defensive mode, with anxiety weighing on my chest like an elephant. However, this time, when I heard her voice, an overwhelming feeling came across me, “That’s it, I’ve had it with all this…”
I wanted a big family filled with genuine peace and happiness.
It was at this very moment, I decided that I would make it my life’s mission to reverse this horrible situation and try to capture that loving relationship we once enjoyed. But how?
A mother of five, with a background in Psychology and Nursing, I’ve always felt the call to run to the rescue of others in physical and/or emotional pain to make them happy again. Luckily, I have a healthy addiction to the positive outcomes that I feel and experience each and every day. Marry that with my perspective on laughing through mistakes, and you’ll understand why I wrote Live E.P.I.C., which uses real stories, humor, transparency, and practical applications to give timeless wisdom a fresh, understandable and easy-to-employ approach.
And while my mother-in-law was the catalyst, I started this E.P.I.C. endeavor as a gift to my five children, so they too could live a happy and fulfilling life.
I welcome you to become a part of my family, following my guidance on the road to less pain, greater joy, and a more satisfying and truly E.P.I.C. life.
